Our Colleague Spotlight feature is on Luke Bazzani, who works within our Vocational Projects team at Surrey Choices. Read his interview to find out how he went from being someone supported at Surrey Choices to an employee and much more!
How long have you been working at Surrey Choices?
I started in December as a bank staff member in the Vocational Projects Team, after being supported by the Growth Team as a customer.
How long were you supported as a customer and what did you do?
I was a member of the Growth Team for over five years. As a team, we undertook different jobs from countryside management to Rights of Way work. I helped to supervise others who did not have as much experience on the machinery.
What skills have you learnt from the Growth Team?
Confidence, teamwork, leadership and how to use machinery safely.
What made you want to join the Surrey Choices Team as a staff member?
I have known lots of staff for a number of years and I have paid work on Fridays on an estate. I felt it was time to try something new and the vacancy came up within the Growth Team!
How did you find the transition from being supported, to giving support?
My colleagues have been supportive, there has been lots of training and I am learning new things.
What is a goal of yours for the near future?
I would like to apply for a full time position at Surrey Choices if it became available.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I play bowls for the county and enjoy socialising with friends. I watch my brother’s football team at weekends and also enjoy spending quality time with my family.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Chocolate, or steak with garlic butter!
