On Tuesday 25 June, students, employers, friends, families, Carers, EmployAbility and Surrey Choices enjoyed an afternoon of celebrations at Denbies Wine Estate, for the annual EmployAbility Making a Difference Awards. Amongst 16 of this years winners, was Sital.
TK Maxx have been working with the EmployAbility service for over four years now. They thoroughly enjoy taking on students with learning disabilities as it is an opportunity to offer them real world working experience and enhances the many colleagues who work in the store to communicate more effectively and as a whole work efficiently as a team. Store manager, Gavin Hillman, told us how fantastically employee Sital has worked over the years she has been working at TK Maxx.
Sital has been with us for about four years, when we began working with EmployAbility she was one of the first students we took on. She is always punctual, and in the four years she has been here she has been absent less than five times! Sital grows in confidence each shift. She works in the fitting rooms department currently which involves dealing with lots of customers all of the time. Her role has become so important as a lot of products go missing from here which has meant a lot of pressure has been on the department due to loss of profit. The way our fitting rooms run has drastically changed and so Sital needed to adapt to this quickly, ensuring standard ands procedures of every store is the same across country.
Gavin went on to say how much Sital has made an impact on customers and colleagues at the store in Epsom.
Sital has had many customer comments and positive feedback. She is excellent at building customer report on building rapport which we feedback to her during team meetings and with higher management. She is always a pleasure to work with and the regular customers we have really enjoy seeing her.
TK Maxx has also been working with The Prince’s Trust for over five years, which inspired them to take take up the opportunity with the EmployAbility team when they were approach in 2015. After asking for any advice to future employers, Gavin told us offering these placements are something all employers should get on board with.
Everyone deserves a chance, and if you are unsure do some research into Surrey Choices and EmployAbility to see the fantastic outcomes that have been achieved.
During her very busy shift, Sital spoke to us about why she loves her job so much.
I have grown in confidence since starting at TK Maxx four years ago. The role helps me to continue to develop my customer service skills which are important for future employment. This role is perfect for me because I like meeting new people everyday, talking to them and building up relationships. I like to be kept busy and be challenged so it ticks all of the boxes!
A very well done to TX Maxx in Epsom, and to Gavin and Sital!
