Social Skills with Future Choices

Rhys has a personal passion for World History and he has been researching various countries each week as part of his Future Choices support.

Rhys wanted to be able to demonstrate his excellent knowledge and use his research in a productive way. He finds social interaction quite difficult and wanted to overcome this fear and meet new people who enjoy the same things as him.

To increase his social skills in an environment where he could talk about a subject he loves, Rhys agreed to create some virtual sessions with the support of his Employment Support Specialist, Lisa Francis.

The virtual sessions were presented by Rhys to a group of people we support who also share an interest in the subject of World History. The Around the World virtual sessions helped Rhys to develop his professional skills in hosting a meeting and presenting information to the audience.

As a result of this, Rhys’ confidence has been really boosted. His communication with his peers has increased his self-esteem, as well as giving him a sense of achievement and pride in his own work. Rhys is now considering gaining some work experience in a local museum as a possible tour guide or visitor assistant.
