Surrey Choices renews Disability Confident Leader status
Surrey Choices Rhythmic Collision Dance Company is inviting local residents along to Camberley Theatre in July to witness a unique performance that aims to improve understanding of learning disabilities and change people’s concept of dance.
Rhythm of Life II will be performed by Rhythmic Collision Dance Company and children from Cordwalles Junior School, who have teamed up to create an ensemble of choreography that reflects life issues, from dementia, anger and nightmares, through to love, family and confusion.
Helen-Louise Lampard, Senior Activities Facilitator at Rhythmic Collision Dance Company, commented: “Rhythm of Life will not only celebrate the medium of dance and music, but will also showcase the friendships that have flourished over the last few weeks between the school children and Surrey Choices customers.
“The children have gained invaluable experiences and have been given the opportunity to better understand the complexity of learning disabilities, as well as how they can break down barriers within their own communities.”
The dancers have been free to create their own contemporary style of dance, both as individuals and in a supportive group environment. The project has helped the performers to understand the importance of teamwork, in addition to developing their self-esteem and improving their physical fitness and coordination.
Rhythmic Collision Dance Company is based at Lockwood Activity Centre in Guildford, with classes hosted every Tuesday and Friday. The dance troupe has performed at a wide variety of venues throughout the county, such as summer theatres, hospitals and theatres, including ‘The Mayor of London Liberty Festival’ at The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in 2016.
The show is set to take place at Camberley Theatre on Knoll Road on Wednesday 19th July between 7pm – 8:30pm. Tickets are available to the public from the box office on 01276 707600 and cost £8.50 for adults, £7 for children, or £28 for a family of four.
