Christopher is supported by our EmployAbility team. Read his interview below to find out what his Supported Internship experience has been like and the skills he has gained from it.
Congratulations on completing your Supported Internships programme. What opportunities has Surrey Choices helped you find?
Thank you! I have been working as a Radio Assistant at B Radio, alongside working in Waitrose & John Lewis.
What sort of tasks are you responsible for at B Radio?
On a day-to-day basis, I meet people who come on B Radio, offering them coffee and tea if they want a hot drink and I make notes of what they say.
What have you learnt in your role?
I have learnt how to work the microphones, knowing how to adjust them and keeping them at the correct level. I have learnt how to use a trackpad, knowing where all the buttons are and what they do.
How else do you support the radio shows
I have learnt how to edit using Adobe Audacity where I help to edit and create audio and sounds for the shows.
How have your Supported Internships had a positive impact on yourself?
It has been nice to work alongside my manager who encourages me to keep learning. My Employment Support Specialist, Vicky, has also helped me gained knowledge and experience of finding supported internships. I really recommend the programme for anyone who wants to learn new skills, or even to add to their current skills and gain new experience.
“Christopher has come on leaps and bounds in various ways, which has been superb for the radio station and his personal development.”
