The Social Skills Group at Cranstock got together to do a sponsored walk to support Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT). They chose Goldsworth Park Lake in Woking and walked as many laps as they could to raise funds for SWT. The weather was sunny, and they had a picnic at noon to refuel before continuing with their laps.
They all started walking at 10:30 AM and finished at 2:30 PM. During their lunch break, they could eat at the local church’s café, and there were plenty of trees around for shade and rest.
The group decided to walk at their own comfortable pace. This way, they wouldn’t get too hot while walking, and no one would get too tired. It gave them the chance to walk leisurely, chat, and enjoy the beautiful nature around them.
Gena McGinty, who uses a walking frame, felt proud because she managed to walk around the lake three times. She said, “This is really good for my legs. It helps improve my circulation. I had a fantastic day, and I’m going to sleep well tonight!” She said this with a happy smile on her face.
Richard Poel mentioned, “It’s wonderful to be outside in the sunshine, seeing everything and everyone. Raising money for such a good cause feels great. We put a lot of effort into this, and it’s a wonderful experience.”
