Kerry is supported by our Shared Lives programme. Read her interview below to find out what she is achieving with Surrey Choices and the impact it is having on her life.
What three words would your family and friends use to describe you?
Active, kind and helpful.
How long have you been working with Surrey Choices?
I have been working with Surrey Choices for a couple of years now, but I have been living with my Shared Lives Family for longer than this. When I aged out of the foster system there was less support, but because my Shared Lives Family were able to start working with Surrey Choices I was able to keep living with them which was a relief as they mean so much to me.
What is something new you have tried this year?
At the end of last year I secured a paid job in catering at a place where I had been volunteering. The staff there and my Shared Lives Family helped me to apply. My job has helped me develop my people skills and get used to handling money and I am very proud of myself for getting my job.
What do you like doing in your free time?
I like to play games on my Nintendo like Pokemon and go into town with my friends.
What is something you are looking forward to over the next few months?
I am looking forward to summer and getting outside. I am part of a youth group called Young Lives who do residential trips and I am looking forward to going on those.
“Joining Shared Lives was so easy and the support you can get is amazing. My Carers have helped me get a bus pass and my job so now I am more independent”
