Katie thrives at Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development
Employment Support Specialist Margaret, knew of a Keep In Touch person who would thrive at a recent two days SOLD (Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development) event. Katie, who volunteers at the Walton Charity Allotments absolutely loves outdoor projects. If it rains Katie is happy to put on boots and get muddy!
Margaret asked Katie if she would like to attend SOLD which involved some challenges to overcome. Katie is hard of hearing and needs to adjust to new surroundings and environments. The event would be a time for meeting new people, making friends and getting involved in a variety of outdoor skills and new activities at a place Katie had never visited. She said yes, but was anxious prior to the event.
However, Katie was in her element there! She got involved in the activities and enjoyed them all; archery, low ropes, forestry skills and team building exercises. All important activities to build on her life skills.
Margaret spoke to Katie’s mum following the event, and she could not have praised SOLD enough. “Katie loved it, she thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and after the first day could not wait to go back!”
