Mutual Interests
One of the great things about Surrey Choices’ is the diverse skills and interest of our workforce. Our colleagues share an abundance of personal skills and interests with the people they support. This means they can cater sessions to things that people are mutually invested in and want to learn more about.
Phil, an Employment Support Specialist, and some of the people he supports quickly discovered they all have a passion for fast cars. As a result of working virtually, Phil was able to develop this into an online session for like-minded Petrol Heads. Now they can enjoy thrilling, fast and cool cars from the comfort of their own homes.
Motorsports are mentioned and the videos show the different disciplines within Racing, Rallying and Formula One to name a few. In addition it shows how much skill is involved in driving fast but also how safety can be achieved.
Working well within a team is a key component of employment and this group have gelled together really well. When they are debating about cars, sharing opinions they are learning and respecting each other. This is a key skill to have when you are working and can have a big impact on how you can sustain employment and grow friendships at work.
“It has been a pleasure producing these sessions and a joy to hear the positive feedback, seeing how the people we support get involved together, improving their communication and teamwork skills, which really makes this virtual session inspiring.” – Phil Bowes, Employment Support Specialist
