Surrey Choices joins forces with Wheels for All to get more people with disabilities cycling
This week, a group of people from Community Choices worked in partnership with Wheels For All. Together, they highlighted how cycling can be accessible to all.
They attended the Greener Transport Surrey event in Farnham, as part of the COP26 Regional Roadshows. They enjoyed showing off their passion and skills for cycling.
Travel Choices
Travel Choices Lead, Cheryl Knight also attended the event. She spoke about the benefits of our service Travel Choices, which offers training to young adults with disabilities to independently walk, cycle or travel on public transport. The service also promotes sustainable travel by encouraging public transport and reducing people’s carbon footprint.
Cycling Projects
Whilst at the event, they were joined by Nigel Fisher, Surrey County Council Coordinator for Cycling Projects, who spoke about the environmental benefits of cycling and the expansion of the ‘Bike Buddy’ programme into Surrey. Bike Buddy is a new inclusive cycling programme, that supports people with disabilities to have access to adapted cycles which they can enjoy in their local area.
COP26
Greener Transport Surrey was a transport-themed event organised by Surrey County Council and partners to mark the UN Climate Change Conference. Focused on showcasing opportunities to reduce carbon emissions through transport, it was live-streamed globally online and into the main event in Glasgow.
