Carinder’s Experts by Experience visit to Walton’s Doctor Surgery
Carinder from Fernleigh visited a Doctors Surgery in Walton recently with the lead of Surrey Valuing People Groups and Partnership Boards. The surgery wants to be more Autism and Learning Disability friendly. Carinder met one of the GPs and the Practice Manager. He was given a tour around the surgery and met the Learning Disability Nurse and Doctors to see how they could provide an even better service for people.
Carinder talked about the importance of people being able to have their annual health checks and also making sure information was provided in a way that can be understood. He spoke about easy-read information and using Photosymbols to help people understand things, as well as the importance of good signs with images and braille, rather than just words.
Carinder said “Our visit highlighted the importance of accessibility for everyone and getting people who use Surrey Choices involved in helping make things better.” He will be feeding back to the North West Valuing People group about the visit.
