Gabriel began attending Flexi-Choices during lockdown and was referred to Employability in May 2021 when he was no longer able to attend college.
Gabriel has lots of interests and engaged well, but when he first came to Employability he had lots of anxiety and some challenging behaviours.
The North Team’s PBS lead, Vivienne Okey, went through Gabriel’s history and EHCP plans and drew up a draft Positive Behaviour Strategy (PBS) plan. The plan identified Gabriel’s triggers and some strategies to support him to return to a calm, happy state.
The plan was shared with all Employment Support Specialists who work with Gabriel and the Personal Assistants that support him. Since then, Gabriel has undertaken a range of placements including Island Farm Community Farm and Ventaxia ventilation and hand-drier factory.
Last week, the team held the 6 month review of Gabriel’s PBS plan and it was great to see that incidents, both at Surrey Choices and at home, are now few and far between. The PBS plan has enabled Surrey Choices to provide a safe space for Gabriel to explore all of his interests and engage with other young people, and he has really enjoyed the new experiences he has been able to explore.
