Taking on new activities with The Growth Team

Stephen relies on routines and can find change difficult. Peter Turner, Activity Facilitator, has been working with Stephen to think about things he would like to do in the future, so that he can learn new skills and challenge himself.

Through his person-centred plan, Peter suggested to Stephen they could try out some gardening tasks together. Peter made sure Stephen was well prepared for some gardening; he does not like activities involving getting his hands dirty, so Peter thought ahead and gave Stephen gardening gloves.

“Stephen worked really hard using a spade to remove the weeds and clear pathways. He used a broom to sweep up all the weeds afterwards and assisted with taking them in a wheelbarrow to the skip.” Peter Turner, Activity Facilitator

This was a huge success for Stephen to get involved in a new activity that required him to be so hands on. Peter used his initiative and went out of his way to support Stephen to feel prepared and comfortable to take on some new activities.
