Surrey Choices Celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Surrey Choices celebrated with an inspirational story for the UN International day of persons with disabilities.

The 3rd December 2015 is the UN International day of persons with disabilities, with the theme this year of inclusion and employment.

To mark this awareness day, Surrey Choices celebrated the achievements of an incredible young man, Anton Brown, who not only conquered Mount Snowdon this year but has also started working for Surrey Choices to inspire others to keep fit and active.

Surrey Choices Customer is Hoping to S‘elf’ Improve This Festive Period

An EmployAbility customer from Surrey Choices is aiming to s‘elf’ improve this festive period as he hopes to become one of Santa’s helpers. Nick Walewski, who has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair, has been involved with Surrey Choices EmployAbility service for over a year.

He desperately wants to fulfil an ambition to play the part of an elf in the run up to Christmas and is on the lookout for a suitable place to try out his ‘elfing’skills.

Surrey Choices EmployAbility, which supports Nick, has launched a search to help fulfil his Christmas wish.

Surrey Choices Celebrates Being Short-listed For Regional award

A social care provider operating across Surrey has been shortlisted for a regional award. Surrey Choices has been short-listed for the Living and Ageing Well in Surrey Awards 2015. Surrey Choices supports people with a range of abilities to find the best care, activities and services for their needs across Surrey.

It has been shortlisted for an award in the ‘Bringing the Community Together’ category for the work they do in the local community to prevent elderly people who live alone feeling isolated.

In 2014, Surrey Choices staff formed a ‘Tea and Memories’ group where like-minded people come together to enjoy tea and cake. The group is hosted in a room especially designed to replicate a tea room in the 1940s to inspire memories, discussions and reminiscence.

Surrey Shared Lives scheme is one of 150 schemes across the UK supporting Shared Lives carers to share their home and family life with adults who need support.

Cranleigh Community Group picks up blooming marvelous award

Staff and customers at a Surrey Choices-run community group are celebrating after being given a Cranleigh in Bloom award.

The Cranleigh Community Group, which meets at Cranleigh Cricket Pavilion, provides support and activities for adults with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities.

Members of the group have been tending their own garden at the cricket pavilion for some time, improving the area by digging a shingle path and lining it with stones donated by Stonescapes, of Cranleigh.

Customers Teeing Up To Raise Money For Children In Need

Customers from Surrey Choices are teeing up for a day of sporting fun when they play a Pudsey Bear themed game of golf to raise money for Children in Need.

A team of enthusiastic golf players from the Woodmansterne Project, will play a four hole game of golf at Woodmansterne Sports Club on Wednesday 26th August, where they will get to meet Pudsey Bear. Teams will also be coming on the day from Surrey Choices services Colebrook and The Larches.
