Involvement Board Meeting November 2016

Another informative involvement board meeting

At Surrey Choices, we are passionate about giving our customers the opportunity to voice their opinions, views and expectations about the services they receive, ensuring that the nature of their disability is not a barrier to expressing themselves. The Involvement Board run by Dexter James, is a relaxed meeting that allows customers the chance to have their ideas become reality.

Activity courses with SOLD a winner with our customers

Customers of Surrey Choices have been enjoying the chance to take part in a free 2-day outdoor team building course with Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD).  The confidence building activities have taken place at SOLD venues in Guildford, Dorking and Richmond.

Customers have taken up the challenge to work together as a team to learn the art of bushcraft, have a go at archery and attempt a low ropes course.  All the activities are inclusive and designed to cater for a range of abilities and needs.

Successfully Overcoming Barriers to Help Transform County

The Surrey Choices Growth team, which currently has 22 members, teaches and supports people with learning disabilities, termed ‘customers’ by the team, to carry out practical tasks, helping to maintain the Surrey countryside and its public spaces.

Customers are referred to the team through their social care practitioners, working with people who have a range of different needs within a specific part of the county. There is a fixed fee to attend the group, which covers the cost of transport and enables Surrey Choices to help and support customers to achieve their goals.

The Growth team has been established for over 20 years, and has a wealth of experience in the specialist role between health and social care and countryside management.
